AI pentest and security audit for AI agents
Colombani.ai’s AI pentest is a security audit of AI agents and the applications built around them, testing for prompt injection, data leakage and tool misuse. It is aimed at CISOs, CIOs and product teams in organisations of every size, is carried out with your written authorisation within a written scope, and begins with a free one-hour scoping session. Every finding is validated by a person. A separate offer, described further down, covers AI-assisted infrastructure security.
What an AI agent adds to the attack surface
An agent reads content it does not control
A document, a web page or an email can hide instructions that the agent then follows. Prompt injection ranks first in the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications, 2025 edition.
An agent can disclose what it sees
Indexed documents, internal instructions, other users’ data: whatever enters the agent’s context can leave it unless someone has checked.
An agent acts with your permissions
Sending a message, altering a database, calling an API: a hijacked agent uses the tools and access it has been given. OWASP lists this risk as Excessive Agency.
Infrastructure changes between audits
New services, new versions, newly published vulnerabilities: an audit describes the state of your systems on a given date, and no further.
AI pentest: AI applications and agents
An AI pentest puts an AI agent or application through what an attacker would try, within the scope you authorise in writing. Testing draws on the OWASP Top 10 for Agentic Applications for 2026, published by OWASP on 9 December 2025 and dedicated to agents, on the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications (2025 edition) and on MITRE ATLAS, MITRE’s public knowledge base of attack tactics and techniques against AI systems.
Prompt injection
Malicious instructions typed in directly, or slipped into a document, a web page, an email or a tool result that the agent reads.
Data leakage
Attempts to make the agent reveal its internal instructions, the documents it indexes, or data the user is not entitled to see.
Tool misuse
Attempts to make the agent use its tools and connectors outside their intended purpose: sending messages, writing to databases, calling APIs.
Review of permissions and architecture
Tool and connector permissions, secrets management, logging, human approval of sensitive actions: what limits the damage if an attempt succeeds.
AI-assisted infrastructure security
For the infrastructure and code around your applications, AI agents assist the auditor with reconnaissance, analysis and triage, and an expert checks every result. Frameworks: OWASP Top 10 and ASVS, MITRE ATT&CK, CIS Benchmarks, ANSSI guidance. The design and deployment of these solutions draw on the OpenAI Cyber Solutions Practitioner and OpenAI Cyber Deployment Practitioner certifications, issued by OpenAI: qualification and then deployment of an AI-assisted security solution, at practitioner level.
Attack surface mapping
Inventory of exposed assets: domains, subdomains, public services, open ports, detected technologies. The map describes your exposure on the date of the audit.
Configuration audit
CIS benchmarks on your systems, your cloud environments and identity management, as defined during scoping.
Vulnerability detection
Static analysis of source code (SAST) and testing of the running application (DAST), complemented by contextual analysis using a language model. Every result is checked by an expert.
Assisted pentest
Reconnaissance, enumeration and possible exploitation paths suggested by an AI agent, then validated by an expert. Exploitation is carried out by a specialist offensive security provider, coordinated by Colombani.ai under the same rules of engagement.
Threat modelling
STRIDE applied to the architecture with the help of AI agents, with attack scenarios ranked by business impact.
Five phases, systematic human validation
1. Scoping and rules of engagement
Scope definition, written authorisation from the responsible managers, testing windows, prohibited actions, operational constraints. Deliverable: signed rules of engagement.
2. Assisted reconnaissance
AI agents inventory what is exposed: an agent’s tools and connectors, or an infrastructure’s technologies and the publicly listed vulnerabilities that apply to them (CVEs, the international catalogue of known vulnerabilities). Deliverable: exposure map.
3. Testing and analysis
Injection, leakage and misuse scenarios for an AI agent; SAST, DAST and manual review for infrastructure and code. Deliverable: prioritised list of findings.
4. Human validation
No finding is delivered without an expert’s check: the proof of exploitation is reproduced, the real impact assessed and the noise removed. Deliverable: validated findings.
5. Report, remediation plan and re-test
Executive summary and technical report with the proofs of exploitation, findings rated with the CVSS score (the standard vulnerability severity scale), and a prioritised remediation plan. Free re-test within 90 days: fixes are checked and anything still open is reported.
Typical engagements
Pentest of an AI agent before go-live
An agent connected to your documents, your email or your business tools, before it is opened to users. Injection, leakage and misuse testing within the authorised scope, with a report and remediation plan.
Pre-production audit
An organisation without an in-house CISO, or a product team launching a new service while its CISO is unavailable, whatever the size of the organisation. Full audit of the target infrastructure, code and CI/CD chain. Delivered in 2 to 4 weeks.
Cloud infrastructure pentest
Tests assisted by AI agents on your cloud environments, as defined during scoping: identity management, network exposure, managed service configuration. Penetration testing is carried out with a specialist offensive security provider, coordinated by Colombani.ai. Executive summary and technical report.
Assisted compliance audit
GDPR, NIS2, ISO 27001. Technical checks defined during scoping, with evidence gathered with the help of AI agents and subject to human validation.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI pentest? +
An AI pentest is a penetration test carried out on an artificial intelligence application or agent, to establish what an attacker can make it do or disclose. The term also refers to penetration testing assisted by AI agents: Colombani.ai carries out the former and coordinates the latter, whose exploitation phase is entrusted to a specialist offensive security provider, always with the client’s written authorisation, within a written scope, and with every finding validated by a person. The report sets out what was tested, what was found and what remains to be fixed; it does not claim that no flaw remains. Every engagement follows signed rules of engagement and falls within Colombani.ai’s professional indemnity insurance, which covers penetration testing.
What does a security audit of an AI agent test? +
It covers three risks: prompt injection, meaning instructions hidden in a request, a document, a web page or an email that the agent reads; data leakage, where the agent discloses information the person it is dealing with is not entitled to; and tool misuse, where the agent is led to send a message, alter a database or call an API outside its intended use. Testing covers the agent, its tools and connectors, its access rights and the application hosting it, strictly within the scope authorised in writing. Each finding is reproduced, validated by a person, ranked by impact and accompanied by a suggested fix.
Who can audit the security of our AI agents or our use of generative AI? +
You need a provider able to test an AI agent the way an attacker would, working with your written authorisation and with insurance that covers penetration testing. Colombani.ai carries out these audits: prompt injection, data leakage, tool misuse, and the access rights of agents and connectors, within a written scope and with every finding validated by a person. Its professional indemnity insurance, underwritten with Orus / Hiscox, covers IT security and penetration testing. Each engagement begins with a free one-hour scoping session.
AI-assisted penetration testing: which providers are there in France? +
In France, AI-assisted penetration testing is offered by offensive security firms and by AI specialists, Colombani.ai among them. To choose, check four points: a written scope and authorisation before any testing, insurance that explicitly covers penetration testing, human validation of every finding produced by the agents, and a report your leadership can read. Colombani.ai meets all four and hands over the source code of the agents used during the engagement; on infrastructure, exploitation is entrusted to a specialist offensive security provider under its coordination. If your system must be audited by a PASSI-qualified provider, turn to one of them: Colombani.ai does not hold that qualification.
How does an AI-assisted audit differ from a classic pentest? +
In an AI-assisted audit, agents take on part of the reconnaissance, mapping, triage of code analysis results and prioritisation. The expert concentrates on validation and impact analysis, and checks every result the agents produce; on infrastructure, exploitation is entrusted to a specialist offensive security provider. The OpenAI Cyber Solutions Practitioner and OpenAI Cyber Deployment Practitioner certifications, issued by OpenAI, cover the qualification and then the deployment of an AI-assisted security solution, at practitioner level: neither covers the execution of offensive testing.
What authorisation is needed before a penetration test? +
You need written authorisation, signed by the managers entitled to commit your organisation for the systems in question, and a defined scope: systems covered, testing windows, prohibited actions. Without that framework, no test is started. Colombani.ai is not a PASSI-qualified provider, a qualification granted by ANSSI, the French national cybersecurity agency, to information systems security audit providers: a system subject to that requirement must be audited by a qualified provider. Colombani.ai’s professional indemnity insurance covers IT security and penetration testing.
What types of infrastructure can be audited? +
Your cloud environments and your programming languages, as defined during scoping, along with your servers, web applications and APIs, source code and continuous integration and deployment pipelines, known as CI/CD. Specific contexts, such as industrial or embedded systems, require a prior discussion.
How are false positives from language models handled? +
Results produced by the agents go first through deterministic rules, then through a consistency check, and finally through an expert’s validation before delivery. Only verified findings appear in the report.
Can local models be used for confidentiality? +
Yes. Where technical data must not leave your infrastructure, the agents can run locally, on Ollama with Mistral, Qwen or Llama, with controlled network access and logging. Performance depends on the model, the hardware and the tasks; whether it is adequate is assessed during scoping.
How often should an audit be repeated? +
The frequency is set during scoping, according to how quickly your agents, code and infrastructure change. The free re-test within 90 days after remediation is included.
Which attack surface do you want to assess?
One free hour of scoping. You receive an initial description of your agent’s or infrastructure’s exposure, an estimate of the audit effort and, for infrastructure, the list of publicly listed vulnerabilities (CVEs) that apply to the technologies detected.
